Author Biography

Catriona Child is currently the Acting Director of the Highland Institute and Project Coordinator for the current Earthkeepers: Canada-IDRC Myanmar Research Fellowship programme. Holding a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University College of North Wales, she is particularly interested in ethnobotany and climate change studies. In addition, she has socio-historical expertise on the Zeme Naga communities in Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland states in Northeast India. This has led her to look at linkages between colonial and postcolonial social histories in the North East and to support efforts among indigenous communities and scholars to recover and preserve vernacular archives. During earlier involvement with The Highland Institute, she was a coordinator for a project on the provision of surgical care for rural patients in North East India for the Global Health Research Group. Catriona is also an experienced editor who regularly works for the Himalaya journal and the Highlander Press.
